Now On Etsy

If you love my finds but live to far away to pick them up in person your problem has been solved.  I now have an Etsy shop.  At first I was not sure if it would be successful, but much to my surprise I sold two items in the first week!  I now have a sidebar on my blog where you can view my Etsy sale items.  If I blog about an item that you would like to purchase just ask me to post it on Etsy.
Here are the two items I sold.

Pick Of The Week

Although many items were picked this weekend one item stands out among the rest.  This solid teak frame mid century lounge chair takes the cake.

Picked

Picking on Thursdays is a different experience than picking on the weekend.  There are very few sales on Thursdays but everyone is itching to get out and find some treasure.  This means that there is lots of competition for good items and that you have to go to sales you would not normally go to.  That was the case this Thursday.  I went to a sale three blocks from my house.  The craigslist ad for it was not too impressive, just a bunch of items from a storage unit.  This meant I had to open my scope and look outside of the the mid century furniture and industrial items I usually look for.  On a cluttered table I found a box full of old medical bottles marked "$5 for all bottles".  I was not sure what they were worth but I was sure that they were worth more than $5.  I took them down to Seek the Unique and sold them for $90!

Portland Flea

The first ever Portland Flea was this Saturday.  The Portland Flea is the brain child of Kate Keefe Sullivan and Andrea Jones of Seek the Unique.  Their goal is to create a flea market in Portland that compares to the markets of London, Paris, and Brooklyn.  This first event was a modest but successful beginning.  Over 20 handpicked venders arrived dark and early at 6am to begin setting up.  Quality items were found in each booth.  I spent $170 before the flea opened at 8:00am.  About that time people began trickling and they began buying too.  My bar cart and two ottomans sold almost immediately.  Sales remained strong throughout the day but so did the rain.  Unfortunately the forecast for sunny skies was replaced by driving rain which drenched a couple of my items.  All in all it was a great day and I am looking forward to the next one on October 15th.

Before and After

I picked up this trunk at the North Portland Flea Market.  I took it home and sanded the wood panels on top and bottom.  I then stained them with Minwax Special Walnut.  Finally I attached 6'' mid century style legs to the bottom.  Sold for $150
