I managed to pick up a couple modern chairs today. The first is a Knoll Ricchio. It was produced in 1990. I usually try not to go outside of the 1950s-60s but Knoll is one of the few companies that never stopped making quality and inspired pieces.
For Sale $150
The second chair is a vintage dining chair that was made in Yugoslavia. It has the original export tag but no reference as to who produced it. It is well made and has very nice lines.
Has anyone ever seen or know anything about this chair?
I have just added another project to my list. This mid century loveseat!. The frame is in beautiful condition. The oversized cushions do not quite match the slender modern frame and the webbing needs to be redone. I have high hopes for how this project will turn out. Hopefully it will be done in time for the Portland Flea.
Below I have added several examples of similar loveseats and lounge chairs.
Which upholstery do you like best? Please comment.
Somewhere under those pillows is a gorgeous modern walnut frame
Now its looking a little better
Yikes! Replacement webbing was done with a clothes line.
I recently found this vintage salt & pepper shaker. It is the Shake N Twist model by William Bounds, Ltd. The patent for this unit was filed in 1963. I think that this brilliant shade of orange is the most classic and defining color of the mid century era. The item is new old stock which means it has been stored in the box and never used since production. A stunning accent piece for any modern dining set. For Sale On Etsy $60
I finally caught my white whale, the black (or chocolate brown) plycraft style lounge chair and ottoman. I have been looking for one of these every day for months. This one is in MINT condition. The seat cushions look like they have never been sat it. No tears, stains, fading or stretching. The wood and chrome are also in excellent condition. SOLD.
Most of the time I hunt for modern furniture hoping that other people like it as much as I do. But I also shop for specific "wishlist" items that people ask me to look for. This allows me to buy with confidence when I know that I have a buyer for a specific item. I am also able to price these pieces a little lower because I do not have to factor in the risk of the piece sitting for a while. This is the case of one such piece. Yesterday I got an email asking for a small red 1950s chrome dining table. This morning I walked into an estate sale and found one standing right in front of me. It is very versitile and has two mechanical slide leaves and a drawer.
If you live in the Portland area and have a piece of modern furniture that you are looking for please let me know at pdxpicker @ gmail dot com.
The sun is coming out and the estate sales are heating up. There is a ridiculous amount of mid century furniture up for sale this weekend in Portland. So much that it is impossible to get it all so I thought I would share the love. Happy Hunting. (I do not have any of these items for sale).
I think that a good mid century sofa is the hardest piece to find. Due to the amount of use and wear a sofa gets very few of them are left in original condition. This is one of these rare examples. The upholstery is in beatiful condition, the foam and springs are firm, and the frame is strong. The legs show some signs of wear and some of the tufting has released. Dimesions: 71'' long x 30'' tall x 28'' deep. SOLD.
This weekend I found this fabulous Danish teak record cabinet. It has storage for records, a sliding shelf for a record player, and more! There is room for all of your media devices including your tv.
Dimensions: 42'' wide x 25'' Tall x 17'' deep. Excellent Condition. For Sale $200
I have only managed to find one example of this items online. Here is the link
This morning I went to an estate sale with my eye on a whole lot of antlers. About 25 people were in line ahead of me. I thought they were surely going to be taken by the time I got in but when I walked in they were still available. I fitted them with wire so that they can be easily and proudly displayed.
For Sale $25-$75. They will be for sale along with many of my other found and repurposed items at Beggars Banquet on March 17th.
